Amber Badgett is the director of sales and marketing for the Aloft Hotel, a boutique hotel in Newport that opened in January with 144 rooms and six suites. Located in the heart of Newport’s entertainment district, the Aloft Hotel is just a block away from Newport on the Levee with quick access to downtown Cincinnati across the Ohio River via the People Purple Bridge. The Aloft Hotel has a bar, gym, pool, meeting rooms, a patio with giant Jenga and Connect 4 games, free Wi-Fi, an a la carte breakfast menu and room service provided by Hofbrauhaus, the Bavarian gastropub located across the street.

Q: Tell me about the Aloft and some of its amenities.

A: Our concept is different by design. When you walk into the lobby…it’s very modern, very open. A sassy, savvy design feeling. Our location is our biggest selling point. Our biggest advantage is because we’ve got the entire Newport on the Levee entertainment district and they’ve got so many cool things that are coming.

Q: Do you target a certain age demographic?

A: Sometimes they say it’s kind of a millennial-driven hotel, but honestly our demographics here have just been perfect. We get the businessman that comes in on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then heads out. And then we get the family of four that comes in and goes to Newport on the Levee. I mean it’s really fun to see the different dynamics that the hotel has brought to the area. It’s really been fun.

Q: Why is Newport a good fit for an Aloft Hotel?

A: I think Newport was a good fit just because of the location, because of the dynamics, just having the entertainment district right beside us. And right across is the Purple People Bridge so it really helps kind of connect Cincinnati to us as well. So it’s a really fun location.

Q: What do you think people will find the most surprising about the Aloft Hotel?

A: The most surprising thing is probably the way that we look. When you walk into the hotel you can tell it’s a different hotel. I mean not many hotels have a pool table in the middle of the lobby. We’re going to do live music every week from a local artist. We also have local artists that have submitted their artwork to us that we sell on behalf of the artist and, of course, all proceeds go to them.

Q: What’s your policy on pets?

A: We are actually a pet-friendly hotel. Your pet can stay free of charge. The only restriction we have is that they are only allowed to stay on our second floor because we’ve kind of designed the second floor a little bit different. And if we know ahead of time we’ll even put a pet bed and pet bowls in the room for you and your little furry friend, too.
