Tea takes on a whole new meaning at Yesterday’s Café and Tea Room, where quality tea is served with skill and technique.

“We put a lot of love into what we make and what we do,” says Nicole Williams, a manager at Yesterday’s.

Open since 2004, this charming restaurant has expanded to include a modern tea café with Wi-Fi and casual seating, a gift shop with 85 kinds of tea, a tea-tasting counter and a soothing main dining area for those who have an hour or two to enjoy tea service.

Visitors can enjoy lunch, brunch and afternoon tea with beautiful tea sets that have been given to owner Susan Schultz by customers and staff in addition to the sets Schultz acquired on her travels abroad.

“Everything has a story,” Schultz says. And that includes the tea sets.

One particular set was given to Schultz when a customer’s mother passed away.

“You have to acknowledge people or else they are forgotten. I know June through her daughter,” says Schultz, who also has a passion for new world teas.

Schultz welcomes customers who are interested in being educated on tea and its health benefits. Guests can also ask the tea sommelier and the staff of Yesterday’s for recommendations on kinds of teas that pair well with their dining courses.

One of the tea services Yesterday’s hosts is Afternoon Tea, which Williams describes as a mini tea tasting with a beautiful luncheon.

It features three hot teas of the visitors’ choosing and four courses—a soup course, scone course served on fine bone china, main entrée served on antique three-tier china and dessert.

Williams and Schultz both say that the potato leek soup is a popular menu item as well as the white chocolate matcha tiramisu. Items on the menu change seasonally, though Schultz says that additions are added on a regular basis.

With gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options, Yesterday’s also boosts a culinary staff that prepares almost all its food in-house.

Recently, Yesterday’s extended its Saturday hours until 10 p.m., serving a Candlelight High Tea. The café also hosts themed children’s teas and is known for its pink hot cocoa.
