“The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes from the summer cottons into its winter wools.”—Henry Beston

Is there anything better than the onset of fall? The crispness of the leaves. Cooler days and nights. Football games to tailgate. The changing of the seasons is one of my favorite parts of living in Ohio.

Living on a farm as I do autumn signifies the end of the growing season. It’s time to harvest and preserve all that hard work from the spring. This is when we come to appreciate summer’s bounty and prepare for the long winter ahead.

Even if you don’t live on a farm the beauty of living in the Dayton area is that you are never far from one. I encourage you to take advantage of living in the Midwest this fall. Head out to all of the farmers markets and festivals in your community and take advantage of all this season has to offer. Some of my family’s favorite don’t-miss events include the Apple Days at Hidden Valley Fruit Farm, the crazy hayride at the Windmill Farm Market and, of course, a trip through Tom’s Maze in Germantown, which is celebrating it’s 20th season in 2017!

But before you head out be sure to thumb through the pages of this issue filled with the fantastic people, organizations and entertainment that make Dayton a great place to live.

Have a great fall!
